The X-Braids

Let me know if there's a legitimate name for these. I've never seen them done before so I'll at least pretend they're original for the time being ('cause I know it's really not). I'm sure most everything we do has been around for thousands of years, actually.

UPDATE: Okay, thanks to Amy (in comments) I went searching and did, indeed, find it elsewhere. So if you wanna check out how someone else did it look HERE and HERE. I guess we all figure these things out on our own eventually. LOL

First I divided her hair into four quadrants. Make sure to wet the hair down thoroughly for neatness.

Next, I undid two diagnal sections because I will braid from one side and end on the other side. I did 2 or 3 links of regular braid in the cross-over section and then started adding in hair from the new section to french braid on down.

Here's what it looks like with one braid finished.

Now I took down the other two sections and braided from the left front section down to the right back section. See below:

Add whatever embellishments (flowers, clips, ribbons, etc.) and if you want to braid in ribbon, be sure to start at the beginning with it.

This is awesome! I have never seen it done before. If I could french braid my daughters hair I'd love to try this.... You look like a princess Brayla! Will you let your hair down for the prince ;)

Brayla, you must be loving the different hair-do's! But does it hurt when Mommy takes out the rubber bands and undoes the braids? I hope not! But you look so so so so cute! I can't wait to see you Christmas! I love you sooooooooo much!!

ps............I have never seen hair braids like your criss-cross ones! I love them! :-)

Hey, BJ isn't in here right now, but I was gonna tell you that she likes to remove the bands herself. She also loves taking the braids out and having "funny hair" as she calls it. I prefer the nicer-quality rubber "bands" because they slide right out. I've also cut the little elastic ones (the lower quality ones) with fingernail clippers because they're so cheap and get all stretched out after one use anyway.

I've got you linked now. Yea! I just have to say that I can only dream of having a daughter with hair like your little girls'. It is so thick and luscious! We don't have much to work with right now, but hopefully it will get better!

LOVE the blog! Love it, love it! And I'm totally for making hair stuff at the crop. Someday I have to get caught up on the scrapbooking, but hair's just way too much fun. Plus, we'll want cute hair in the pictures for our books, right???

Another new hair blog, yay! I actually have seen this style done on 2 different sites. Check out Pipers Hairdos and The story of a princess and her hair. You'll have to dig through both sites because they were both posted a long time ago. I've been following them both for awhile now and remember seeing this on both. It's always fun to see it again though. Cute!

Thanks, Amy! I just updated the page with links to those. I had never seen it before and I'm still pretty new to hair blogs. But it's not all that surprising that we are all doing much of the same stuff. Heehee! Thanks again! :)
